Blog Entry # 1 - BAN PLASTIC BAGS, NOW!!!

“Environmental pollution is an incurable disease. It can only be prevented.” - Barry Commoner

Plastic bag is a useful necessity that the whole world uses for their daily lives. It offers a wide range of uses; from carrying stuff to water-proofing them, but did you know that plastic bags is one major factor in heavy flooding and air pollution? Yes, plastic bags are really harmful to our environment, from manufacturing to selling and consuming. They are made from non-renewable resources and they do not decompose by themselves.  They can destroy our ozone layer which can contribute more to major climate change. Plastic bags are indeed useful, but when used in the wrong way, it can lead to dramatic problems and changes in the world.

We think that one possible way to make our Earth better is to ban plastic bags. Banning plastic bags can contribute big-time to our environment; we can avoid disasters from happening such as flash floods, fires, and tsunami. We can also lessen air and water pollution because manufacturing plastics uses fossil fuels and produces toxic gases that are harmful to the Earth and every creature living in it, also, without plastic bags we can improve the state/population count of our marine life and wildlife. Plastic bags never break down, it is the reason why our drainage systems are always clogged which leads to flash floods, and if you don’t know it already, floods are full of different types of diseases and bacteria such as ‘leptospirosis’ that is very harmful to the human health and it can later result to death. We believe that there are better alternatives for plastic bags such as “eco-bags” and/or “bayong” which we know that is more sturdy and durable, they are also long-lasting and they are re-usable; you buy it once, you can use it forever.

We may not have the power to stop environmental pollution but we believe that we have the power to prevent it by banning and stopping plastic bag manufacturing. Whenever you use plastic bags, always think not only for yourselves but also think about the future generation; about the world they are going to have and experience. They deserve better, WE DESERVE BETTER!
